Unduk Ngadau 1958 - 2019 (Before & After)

Kaamatan is a well sought after festival (a.k.a Harvest Festival) celebrated annually in the state of Sabah. This festival begins & is celebrated throughout the whole month of May annually with a lot of drinking, eating, partying & other traditional activities usually held in KDCA.

Besides all that, one of the most anticipated activity during this festive season is the "Unduk Ngadau" event (a beauty pageant held annually during the Kaamatan cultural event in SabahMalaysia.)
This traditional event first started in 1958 but officially in 1960.

Sadly it is very hard to locate all information of the beauties due to improper record. For the convenience of everyone, here is the list of all the beauty queens, some photos (before & after), some information about them and also the links to their profile should you want to follow & check them out.

Jesselton Rural Beauty Queen 1958

1958 -  Stephanie Nuin Totu Dulijin
Stephanie Nuin was the first woman to have won and was crowned as Jesselton Rural Beauty Queen in 1958. She is also the aunty of  Edwina Patricia Totu who won Miss Harvest Festival in 1976.

1959 - Mariam Nandu

Miss Kadazan 1960-1970.
1960 - Yong Mee Lan
Sources said that she passed away at a very Young Age (34 years old) due to illness. She is succeeded by two children Danny & Eddie.

1961 - Talian Bunal
She was the second crowned queen of Miss Kadazan who went on to be a teacher later on in life.

1962 - Marcella Tiansim
Unduk Ngadau Papar 1962. She is also the winner of the State-Level Unduk Ngadau 1962. Marcella was the third Kadazan Unduk Ngadau, from Kampung Dambai Papar, Sabah.

1963 - Mary Badak
Unduk Ngadau Putatan 1963 and also winner of the State-Level Unduk Ngadau 1963. A photo of Mary making her final round catwalk before she was crowned as Winner.

1964 - Rita Bagong
Now known as Datuk Rita Jaafar. A beauty with brains, she was the former Director of Maktab Perguruan Gaya.

1965 - Molina Daniel
She was the youngest State-Level Unduk Ngadau ever Crowned. A beauty queen from Papar, she was just 14-years old when she was crowned.  She was 54 when she Passed away in 2005. Molina is also the 1st cousin of Marcella Tiansim.

1966- Patricia Sinidol
She was the late Datuk Fred Sinidol's daughter. Her sister, Evelyn Sinidol won the same title in 1972.

FLORENCE BIBI AKA Datuk Florence Bibi Kaur @ Datuk DR Puan Hajjah Florina Abdullah.
She started her career as temporary English teacher at St Mary's Limbahau, Papar, Sabah before being accepted into the Nursing Training at Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Kota Kinabalu. She then furthered her study Bachelor of Science (Manchester) and became the Director of Nursing Malaysia.

1970 -  Helen Mojiniu
HELEN MOJINIU who hails from Penampang, Sabah is the former State-Level Unduk Ngadau in 1970. She is also the last Miss Kadazan.

Miss Harvest Festival 1971-1980

1971- Mili Jaikoh Imbayan

From Tamparuli, she was crowned as state level unduk ngadau in 1971. 
She was the 2nd runner-up in the previous edition.

1972- Evelyn Sinidol
Her sister, Patricia Sinidol won the same title in 1966. Daughter of Datuk Fred Sinidol.

1973 - Prisca Tikoh
She is the mother-in-law to the Crowned Beauty, Unduk Ngadau 2008.

1976 - Edwina Totu
Unduk Ngadau Penampang and also Winner of the Sate-Level 1976
Edwina won the title at the age of 15 years old. She was a former student of St Francis High School Convent Kota Kinabalu. She is a Lawyer by profession.

1977 - Mary J. Kinjau
Mary of Penampang was crowned in 1977. She is also the elder sister of Janet Kinjau who also won the Unduk Ngadau State Level in 1983.

1980 - Roslina Amit
Representing Tuaran, Roslina is the only Muslim winner ever. She is also the last Miss Harvest Festival before the change of name.

Ratu Pesta Menuai 1981–1986

1981- Janet Dabbi

Representing Penampang, she is the first crowned beauty in this pageant under this name.

Margaret Dolly Jimayol-Unduk Ngadau Beaufort 1982. She also won the State-Level Unduk Ngadau in 1982.

Unduk Ngadau Penampang 1983 and also winner of the State-level Unduk Ngadau 1983. Janet is the younger sister of Mary Marjorie kinjau who also won the State-level Unduk Ngadau in 1977

Unduk Ngadau Penampang 1984. Esther's daughter Crystel Eve was the Tanjung Aru Unduk Ngadau 2010 and also winner of the State-Level Unduk Ngadau 2010.

1986 - Johanna Disimond
Her first cousin, Jane Peter Disimond (representing Penampang) was the 2nd runner-up in 1979, while their niece, Botiza Arthur Disimond, won in 2011. She is also the last person to win this competition as Miss Harvest Festival.


1987 - Joan Tommy
Unduk Ngadau Tanjung Aru 1987. First person to win this beauty competition under the new & present competition name.

From Penampang, Jennie was making her final round catwalk at the State-Level Unduk Ngadau competition in 1988.

1989 - Deidre Mojuntin
The late Unduk Ngadau of 1989 representing Penampang. Passed Away due to asthma.  She was the daughter of a local politician, the late Datuk Peter Mojuntin.

1990 - Julia Augustine
Unduk Ngadau Tanjung Aru 1990 and also winner of the State-Level Unduk Ngadau 1990. Julia was making her final round of the of the State-level Unduk Ngadau in 1990.

2003 - Daphne Iking
Unduk Ngadau Klang Valley 2003 and winner of the State-Level Unduk Ngadau 2003.

Daphne Iking is a professional emcee who has experience in the Broadcasting industry as a TV journalist, producer and TV anchor for over a 16 years. This award-winning actress and TV personality is a Universiti Sains Malaysia Master Degree holder. She dabbles with theatre and spins music on her pioneer decks when time permits. Daphne loves scuba diving and is also a certified Prenatal Yoga Instructor - offering community yoga to expecting mums every Friday morning. 2007 -Jo-Anna Sue Henley Rampas
Unduk Ngadau Tuaran 2007 and also winner of the State-Level Unduk Ngadau 2007.  She is half British and was a runner up at Bintang RTM. She is the current political secretary to Chief Minister of Sabah, Shafie Apdal.[3] In 2019, she was elected as the organising chairperson for state Unduk Ngadau competition.[4]

UNK 2008- Leonie lawrence Gontuni of Penampang.


2009 - Appey Kanavahon
Unduk Ngadau Papar 2009. She won the State-Level Unduk Ngadau 2009.  Miss Malaysia Earth 2010. Her sister, Arveyna Pamella Januin was the Unduk Ngadau Papar in 2017 and placed 2nd runner up.

2010 - Crystel Eve Huminodun
1st runner-up in Unduk Ngadau Kota Kinabalu 2010. Her mother, Esther Sikayun won the same title in 1984. She was first runner up at Miss Earth Malaysia 2011. She is now an air stewardess.

2011 - Bo Tiza
Newly Crowned State-Level Unduk Ngadau 2011.She hails from Penampang and aspires to be a PILOT as she loves traveling and Flying high in the Air.

  Her sister, Mary Grace Lojuki competed in 2018 representing Kota Kinabalu and placed as the 5th Runner Up. She also was Miss International Malaysia 2015.

2014 - Cheryl Lynn Pinsius
Previously, she was the Unduk Ngadau Inanam 2011. First runner up Miss Southeast Asia 2016. Her sister, Cracy Pinsius was the Unduk Ngadau Inanam 2000.

2015 - Ryannie Yong
2nd runner-up in Unduk Ngadau Kota Kinabalu 2015. She also was the contestants at Unduk Ngadau Bandaraya Kota Kinabalu in 2013. She was Miss Grand Pututan 2019, later joined Miss Grand Sabah 2019 the title Miss Scuba Sabah 2019.

2016 - Sherry Anne
Miss Sherry Anne Laujang of Penampang wearing the designed contemporary costume during the 'Sodop Piintutunan' and Gala Nite dinner at KDCA Hongkod.  The most competitive Unduk Ngadau year when she managed to beat the first runner up, Claryssa Henry Ogodong of Kudat who is crowd favour to win the crown.

2017 - Kerinah Mah
  Unduk Ngadau State-Level 2017.
She is a Sino-Tombonuo[5] and was the Unduk Ngadau Pitas 2015. She was also Miss Grand Bandaraya Kota Kinabalu 2019, later joined Miss Grand Sabah 2019 and was crowned Miss Earth Sabah 2019.

2018 - Hosiani Keewon
From Tambunan, representing Inanam. Was second runner up at Unduk Ngadau Tambunan 2015. Hosiani is also an influencer and a great singer. She has a few music under her name.

2019 - Francisca Ester Nain
  She is from the tribe of Dusun Tindal and was the Unduk Ngadau for Kota Belud in 2017 where she is originated. During the year, she represented Kota Belud at the state level and secured a Top 15 placement.[6]
