Get to know KK’s favorite cafes and restaurants all along the same lorong!

KK’s cityscape is ever-growing but never losing touch of its humble past. Coffee and teatime lovers have sprung into the 21st century and KK isn’t missing a single bit of it. From all the hipster and minimalist aesthetics comes a lorong KK people know too well for its new image. Yes, you’ve guessed it- It’s Jalan Dewan!

In the past, Jalan Dewan was known as a printing street. You still get to feel the vintage vibe from old signages at older shops, and some that are still standing strong after many years are First Plastic, May Florist, and Lucy’s Backpackers. As KK city continued to blossom as a tourist destination, Jalan Dewan and Gaya street became an accessible accommodation hub for backpackers and tourists from across the world.

Soon enough came cafe culture born into the humble street that hasn’t lost a bit of the classic touch of Jesselton (with the Harrington clock tower at the end too!). Although Jalan Dewan is indeed becoming popular, you won't really feel the hustle and bustle of the city - perfect to rest easy after a tiring day of work or to just meet up with friends over lunch or teatime.

Here are a few cafes and eateries down Lorong Dewan. Let the inner foodie take out that piece of paper and write these down on your cafe-hopping checklist!

  1. Chopping Block

Known for their delicious meat portions, they also serve a variety of salads and fish dishes. However, it is a bit pricey but totally worth every penny.

  1. Gong Cha

We love bubble tea. Enough said.

  1. Damn Good Burgers

Think the name’s too ambitious? Think again. Their burgers are, indeed, damn good.

The crowd says it all. #damngoodburger #kkcity #australialane #lorongdewan

  1. Woo!

You can never decide what to eat here! Everything on the menu sounds too good.

  1. October Cafe

This is everyone’s favorite place to chill. We love the rustic setting that definitely takes you to another place.

  1. Karamell Almondo

Not a cafe, but you’ll never know when you need some Macha Ice Cream. It’s just a cute little corner store, look out for the ice cream cone signage!

  1. Fruto Juice Bar

Well, this isn’t a cafe either, but let it be another spot for you to chill with healthy juice!

  1. Nook Cafe

Have I overused the word, “chill” in this article? Because I’ll say it again: Nook is very chill. You can literally spend hours here accompanied with a relaxed setting and really good coffee.

  1. Biru Biru Cafe

If you’re looking for some fun, drop by Biru Biru when they have open mic nights and even salsa dancing nights sometimes! Biru Biru was one of Jalan Dewan’s first cafes and we love their waffles. Yum yum.

That sounds like a handful lot of shops for your cafe-hopping adventure. But surely, you won't resist coming back for good food and coffee!

The foodie scene is ever-growing and we are so excited to see the KK cafe culture grow!
